Site speed rebuilds

Keep the site your customers know. We rebuild what sits underneath it so pages open quickly on a phone.

Who a rebuild is for

A rebuild fits when you are happy with how the site looks and what it says, and unhappy with how long it takes to appear. It is common on sites built a few years ago with a page builder, on sites that grew a plugin at a time, and on sites where several people have added tracking codes and widgets.

What we change

AreaTypical problemWhat we do
ImagesFull-size photos scaled down in the browserResize to the sizes the layout uses, convert to modern formats, load below-the-fold images later
ScriptsWidgets and trackers loading before the pageRemove what you no longer use, delay the rest until after the page shows
FontsSeveral families and weights from outside serversTrim to the weights in use and serve them from your own domain
Theme codeBuilder code for features the site doesn't useRebuild templates with only the code each page needs
Hosting and cachingEvery visit rebuilt from scratch on a slow serverAdd caching and a CDN, or move to static hosting where it fits

What stays the same

Your page addresses stay the same unless we agree to change them, so links from search results, maps listings and social profiles keep working. Where an address has to change, we set up redirects. Your forms keep sending to the same inbox, and any booking or payment tool you rely on is tested on the new build before it goes live.

WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and others

On WordPress we can usually rebuild in place, keeping the editor you know. Hosted builders such as Wix and Squarespace give less control over the code, so the quote will say what can be improved there and when moving to a lighter setup makes more sense. For sites that rarely change, a static build is often the fastest option, and we can set up a simple way for you to edit text.

How it runs

  1. We test your current pages on a throttled phone connection and save the reports.
  2. You get a written quote listing what we will change and what we will leave alone.
  3. We rebuild on a staging address so you can click through every page first.
  4. We switch it live, retest, and send the before and after reports.

Questions

Will a rebuild hurt my search rankings?

Keeping page addresses and content the same is the main protection, and we redirect any address that has to change. Faster pages can help over time, but we don't promise ranking changes.

Do I need to give you my passwords?

We'll need access to the site and hosting. The safest way is to add us as a separate user that you can remove when the job is done, so you never share your own login.

Is your site slow on a phone? Send the address and tell us what the site needs to do. We'll look at what is weighing it down and reply with a written quote.
